Junior Scholar

Robert (Robby) Murphy is a Ph.D. student in sociology at the Graduate Center. His research broadly focuses on understanding the socio-political drivers of inequalities and exploring potential solutions. His current work addresses these aims by examining the political power of business in shaping inequality, including the effects of financial sector power on U.S. income concentration and the socio-political determinants of inequality in capital income across nations. His prior experience conducting social psychological research on inequality as an undergraduate at Reed College (B.A., psychology) inspires additional interests in “macro-micro” approaches to studying ideological, institutional, and distributional change. Murphy also holds an M.S. in quantitative methods in the social sciences from the Graduate Center.
