Welcome to Our 7th Cohort of Postdoctoral Scholars

Our next cohort of postdoctoral scholars will join the Stone Center for two-year appointments that begin in August 2025. Naomi Crowther, who researches issues of gendered wealth inequality alongside the intergenerational and multidimensional effects of displacement, was selected for the position that focuses on wealth inequality. Marai Hayes, whose research examines how health shapes the trajectory of economic outcomes over the life course, was selected for the position that broadly focuses on socio-economic inequalities.

Perceptions of Inequality and Redistribution in China

Stone Center Postdoctoral Scholar Zhexun Mo discusses the two recent papers he contributed to the Stone Center Working Paper Series. The papers focus on how the Chinese public views inequality and redistribution after four decades of extraordinary growth and soaring income inequality.

Salvatore Morelli on the Rising Importance of Inherited Wealth and How to Curb Its Negative Effects

Salvatore Morelli, director of the GC Wealth Projectdiscusses the surge in inherited wealth by younger generations in rich Western countries, what that means for wealth inequality, and potential solutions for the negative impacts of the ongoing Great Wealth Transfer as inheritances continue to rise.
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Joins Stone Center
Thibaut Plassot Sansans, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Bordeaux, is currently a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Stone Center. He presented his working paper, “Mapping Inequality of Opportunity in France and Its Regions: A Data‐Driven Analysis Based on Fiscal Administrative Data,” at the Stone Center’s Multidisciplinary Seminar Series in March.
How Intergenerational Occupational Mobility Fuels Earnings Inequality
Swapnil Landge, a Ph.D. candidate in economics at the Graduate Center and a Stone Center Junior Scholar, discusses his investigation of the intangible transfers of skills between parents and children. Landge recently presented his work at the 2nd III/LIS Comparative Economic Inequality Conference and as part of the Stone Center Multidisciplinary Seminar Series.
Stone Center Scholars Present Work at III/LIS Economic Inequality Conference

Fifteen researchers associated with the Stone Center, including three senior scholars, attended the 2nd III/LIS Comparative Economic Inequality Conference, held in Luxembourg on February 27 and 28. An evening event featured Branko Milanovic discussing his book Visions of Inequality with GC CUNY Stone Center Director Janet Gornick and Affiliated Scholar Francisco Ferreira, who is also the director of the International Inequalities Institute.
